5 THINGS TO DO ON A CAPE COD RAINY DAY
There’s nothing better than seeing sunny days and warm temperatures in the forecast for your summer vacation on Cape Cod. Your options are endless: head to the beach, cool off with an ice cream cone, or enjoy a lobster roll outside. So, what do you do on a rainy day on Cape Cod? Don’t despair! We pulled together our five favorite things to do on a rainy day on Cape Cod.
Go bowling
Cape Cod has plenty of bowling alleys, but for a special treat, head to Orleans Bowling Center, conveniently located off of exit 12 on Route 6. OBC, as it’s known by locals, offers candlepin bowling (a New England tradition), a small arcade, and Big Dog’s BBQ, a restaurant and bar right next to the lanes. Big Dog’s BBQ won’t disappoint: It may be the best barbecue you can find on Cape Cod!
Learn about pirates at the Whydah Pirate Museum
In 1717, the Whydah Gally wrecked off the coast of Wellfleet. The ship was captained by Sam Bellamy, a notorious pirate who had successfully looted dozens of ships and filled the Whydah with their treasures. The ship’s final resting place was a mystery until 1984, when diver Barry Clifford discovered the wreck. Learn more about the Whydah at the Whydah Pirate Museum in West Yarmouth, an educational museum that is perfect for both kids and adults alike. The museum, which opened in 2016, is filled with artifacts from the wreck and a 25-foot replica of the ship.
Check out the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory
Get an inside look at how the famous Cape Cod Potato Chips are made during one of the factory’s tours. The company was first founded in 1980 in Hyannis and has been at its present factory since 1985. Now, the chips are sold all over the country and have been featured in the national media.
Visit a local brewery
Cape Cod is a growing hotbed for craft beer brands. If you’re 21+, head to one of the many breweries and find a new local favorite. Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis offers tours of its brewery and kids (both human and furry) are allowed to tag along. Pack up some sandwiches and swing by Devil’s Purse Brewing Co. for a lunchtime tasting. Hog Island Beer Co. in Orleans and Naukabout Brewery in Mashpee are also great stops on a brewery tour of Cape Cod.
